構成やカメラワークが余り良くなかったり、斬新な写真ではなかったり、単にスペースがなかったり、様々な理由で、ファッション誌『ヴォーグ』向けに撮影されたものの掲載されなかった写真が集められた珍しい本。
イギリスのヴォーグ社でアーカイブされている150万枚の写真から、ファッション、日常風景、ポートレート、パパラッチ的写真など約400点を選び、「未知のヴォーグ」と題し、没写真からヴォーグの歴史とファッションの歴史を振り返る。
未知の作品のなかには、セシル・ビートン（Cecil Beaton）、ホースト（Horst）、ノーマン・パーキンソン（Norman Parkinson）、リー・ミラー（Lee Miller）たち、著名なカメラマンのものも多い。彼らの作品からはファッション写真の秘史をたどれる。
他にも、デビッド・ベイリー（David Bailey）、アービング・ペン（Irving Penn）、パトリック・デマルシェリエ（Patrick Demarchelier）、ブルース・ウェーバー（Bruce Weber）、ハーブ・リッツ（Herb Ritts）、スティーブン・マイゼル（Steven Meisel）、ユルゲン・テラー（Juergen Teller）とマリオ・テスティノ（Mario Testino）らを収録。
